The Hot Box Saunas started as a simple group of friends who loved getting together to sweat. We also happened to have some carpentry skills and started to wonder if we could build a portable sauna to take with us on our adventures.

Soon enough, we discovered the barrel sauna design and thought it would be a perfect option to put on wheels. The barrel is naturally resistant to travel damage; it was one of the first vessels for transporting goods around the world!

Next, we finished our first barrel sauna on a trailer and realized how fun it was to take one of our favourite hobbies along wherever we wanted. We began to imagine other people might enjoy having a sauna wherever they wanted, so we started our portable sauna rental business out of Ottawa.

The barrel sauna originates from Finland, where there is one sauna per household today. Our barrel saunas take on a distinctly Canadian character because of the western red cedar walls and the fact we put it on a trailer, perfect for the vast stretches of highway crossing the Great White North.
The curved walls of our saunas help them to heat up efficiently and distribute the hot air evenly. Also, the round shape is one of the strongest in geometry, allowing our barrel saunas to travel roads other rigs wouldn’t.
These portable saunas fit four to six adults comfortably, reaching temperatures above 90°C without issue. The wood-burning stove inside is small but packs a powerful punch that will get you sweating in about 30 to 45 minutes.
